Blankophor GmbH & Co. KG was founded in October 2010 to run the global FWA (fluorescent whitening agent) business divested by Kemira Germany GmbH. The main application of the FWAs manufactured in Leverkusen is as an optical brightener for cellulose fibers, mostly for use in the paper industry. The history of this product class dates back 70 years and started at Bayer. Since this time, the BLANKOPHOR® brand has been a very familiar name in the industry worldwide. FWAs are substances that absorb ultraviolet light – from daylight, for example – and emit this energy in the form of blue fluorescent light. They brighten paper by compensating yellow tints. Blankophor GmbH & Co. KG operates Europe’s largest and most cutting-edge FWA production facility at the CHEMPARK Leverkusen site. The business concept is based on know-how, application experience, and a wide-ranging portfolio of innovative products and technical services.
