Fire technology

The fire behavior of materials and products and the fire resistance of structural elements are important safety issues. We determine and evaluate these properties for various products, in particular polymers, using standardized test methods. The parameters investigated include ignition and flame spread propensities along with smoke density, corrosivity, toxicity and heat release. Our fire testing department also contributes to quality assurance and the certification of your products.

Your advantages
  • Our testing competence enables you to specifically improve the fire behavior of your products.
  • Our fire tests ensure that your products meet statutory requirements.
  • We provide you with precise information on the fire behavior of your products.

Our Services

  • We offer around 100 standardized fire test methods, especially for the building and transportation (rail, road and air) sectors, including those resulting from the European harmonization process for rail vehicles. We are certified by the German authorities as a testing center for railway vehicles and aircraft. We are involved in the development of test standards on a national and international basis.
Certificated testing competence

We are a testing body with official recognition for railand air transport, and we also work in conjunction with external certification bodies.

The CURRENTA Fire Technology Department has been audited by the “Eisenbahn-Cert” and is therefore a testing center certified to perform European fire test methods for railway vehicles according to CEN TS 45545-2.

Our employees are not just engaged in materials testing, but also work globally on the development of test and evaluation methods, in some cases acting in a co-ordinating and lead capacity. The Fire Technology Department maintains close ties with institutes, universities, specialist associations and the regulatory authorities. We have particularly close ties with the ibw (Institute of Fire Technology) and the Department of Fire and Explosion Protection at the University of Wuppertal. This also ensures that the latest findings of fire protection research flow directly into the advice we give to customers.
