Wastewater treatment
Modern processes which tower over the problem
The innovative concepts in place within CHEMPARK for the treatment of polluted wastewater are based on intensive research carried out over the last 50 years. We offer our customers highly effective treatment plants and efficient wastewater management. By combining physical, chemical and biological purification processes, we provide maximum treatment performance and environmental compatibility.
What types of wastewater can be treated?
Our treatment plants specialize in the purification of organically polluted wastewater with a range of services tailored to the precise requirements of industry and local authorities and offering innovative solutions for the treatment of polluted water. Our plants can handle:
- acid and alkaline wastewater
- wastewater containing solids
- wastewater containing high-odor substances
We operate centralized large-scale treatment plants at our sites in Leverkusen, Dormagen and Krefeld-Uerdingen, each based on a different technical concept. This ensures that the best solution is always available for all types of polluted wastewater. What all the processes have in common is a biological purification stage. Bacteria – which also naturally occur in natural rivers and lakes – convert the organic substances in the wastewater into carbon dioxide, water and metabolites. This is the same principle as the natural self-cleaning mechanism of rivers and lakes and is therefore particularly environmentally friendly.
What information do we need from you?
We work in close cooperation with our customers to achieve optimal purification results when treating organically polluted wastewater. It is first-hand information from our customers that helps us to select the most appropriate process for sustainable disposal. We therefore require accurate data on:
- the source of the wastewater
- organic and inorganic content (quantity and type)
- previous disposal routes
Evaluation based on various different acceptance criteria
Additionally, we evaluate the wastewater at our treatment plants on the basis of various acceptance criteria, which are generally as follows:
- solids pH
- organic carbon (TOC)
- organic halogen compounds (AOX)
- biodegradability (Zahn-Wellens test)
- restriction of nitrification
- heavy metals
- nitrogen
- special organic components
Controlled safety with a high flow of data
Comprehensive testing is carried out to provide ongoing assurance that we are meeting the complex requirements of sustainable disposal. Over the year we take almost 200,000 analytical measurements and permanently monitor the water flowing into and out of the plants. The results of every process at the wastewater treatment plants are fed into a central monitoring station. Additionally, the relevant authorities also regularly monitor our plants to ensure that operations are running smoothly.
